Musical Note Bookmark Favors Complement Your Wedding Theme

If you want a cheerful and entertaining way to blend harmony into your wedding theme, musical note bookmark favors will give your guests a favor worth singing about long after you’ve said farewell.

Whether you teach music, or play in a band or orchestra, or maybe you just love going to concerts, share your love of music with your guests by having music inspired favors that will blend in perfect harmony with your wedding theme, bridal shower or any wedding-themed event.

Wedding bookmarks with vibrant designs of musical notes are also a way to project the peace and harmony that you and your beloved share with each other; that your two hearts beat as one in perfect harmony.

And what better way to illustrate that symmetry to your closest friends and family than by giving them a gift from your heart that portrays the harmony and love that you feel for your spouse-to-be.

Musical note bookmark favors will easily complement many other music inspired favor choices you use throughout your wedding theme, for instance, music note favor boxes, votive candles or key chains as favors or place card holders designed like miniature music stands or musical instruments.

Accentuate any one of these whimsical favors with musical note bookmark favors and your guests will be reminded of the dances, the inspirational love songs and the variety of tuneful sounds heard during your wedding ceremony and reception.

Music note bookmark favors can be created with a wide array of designs to incorporate into your wedding theme.  If you play piano, guitar, sax or any other particular musical instrument, you can have your favorite musical instrument as the background on your wedding bookmarks.  Or combine musical notes and symbols with graphics of different musical instruments, or anything that conveys the musician or music lover in you and your future spouse.

You can also coordinate music bookmark favors with any of your other wedding-theme pieces like invitations, programs or other favors that make up your specific theme.  For example, if your choice of wedding favors is a selection of miniature chocolates inside a favor box decorated with musical notes, design a favor kit by attaching specially designed musical bookmarks to the box with a colorful ribbon.

You can accent your table and main table centerpieces, the wedding cake or gift card tables with musical note bookmark favors, adding a little extra flavor to each.

Whatever choices you make for your invitations, programs, favors or decorations, music note bookmark favors are an excellent way to harmoniously complement your entire wedding theme, from start to finish, adding elegance without sacrificing cost.

Dare to Be Different ? Hire a Magician as your Wedding Entertainer!

Bridal gown, bridal party gifts, flowers, caterer, music, food … where does wedding entertainer fall in this line-up? Often, the entertainment for your wedding reception and meal is one of the last things to get booked, but it could end up being one of the most important decisions you make. A few years from now, no one will remember what your gown looked like or how the food tasted. What they will remember is the entertainment, particularly if you hire a magician.

Why a Magician?

When you invite family and friends to your wedding, you will get a motley crew of ages – from newborns and young children to adults and seniors. It can be hard to find entertainment for your wedding that will appeal to virtually everyone. That is why hiring a magician, particularly one that specialises in close-up magic, is a smart move.

Magic has long fascinated both the young and old. Adults get in touch with their inner child and become fascinated right along with the kids. What better way to keep your wedding guests engaged than with a close-up magician as your wedding entertainer? Well-versed in reading their audience, a good magician will know how to use humour and stories to create an entertaining magic act.

Unlike being on stage, playing to a huge crowd, a close-up magician works smaller groups, such as tables of guests at your wedding reception. Close-up magic is more captivating because the guests are up close and personal with the magician as they try to figure out all the tricks. Having this type of entertainment can also take the pressure off of you as one-half of a newly married couple sincerely trying to make your way around the entire wedding reception greeting everyone. You don’t have to worry about whether or not your guests are having a good time!

How to Hire a Magician

Besides word of mouth and references from people you know, the next thing to do is head to your computer and the internet. Simply run a search for magicians in your area. Most of them will have websites which advertise their resume and professional affiliations as well as client testimonials. You will likely be able to view video clips of past magic performances the entertainer performed.

Of course, calling a local entertainment agency or two will also garner some magician choices for you to interview. Talk with the magicians. Get a feel for their personality and whether they would excel in close-up magic. Ask if close-up magic is part of their repertoire. Contact the magician’s references, particularly if some were from happily wedded clients.

You know your wedding guests and what type of close-up magician would work best as your wedding entertainer. Sometimes, it is a matter of the best personality that would mesh well with your family and friends attending your wedding. For sure, they will remember a talented magician with a great act years later – and that should be your ultimate goal. Create wonderful memories people will remember for years to come.

What You Should Know About DJ Pricing!

Over the last several years, the biggest change in the wedding industry has been that today’s couples want more personalized, individualized, fun weddings. With more involvement in the planning and expressing your style in the reception, your guests become connected and part of the celebration. By giving them the opportunity to be an active part of the festivity, your friends and family will be more interested and involved, stay longer, have more fun, and take home many more priceless memories.

Would you say Amazing, Fun, Lively, Elegant, Classy, Stress-Free, Well-Organized, Romantic, Sentimental, Personalized, and Pleasantly Memorable? How do you want your guests to remember your reception, Interested, Involved, Entertained, Remarkable, and The Best Time Ever? Would you ever think of your description to be Average, Ordinary, Fair, Run-of-the-Mill, Uneventful, Boring, or McWedding? It doesn’t seem like it should be much of a choice, but the right or wrong DJ at your reception can produce these different results. Think of the last wedding you attended, and how the DJ contributed to how you remember the event. It is important to clarify your budget and prioritize your wants & needs, prior to interviewing your entertainment. You need to understand what you’re looking for, the differences between DJ pricing, the right questions to ask, and the realities of hiring DJ wedding entertainment.

Reality #1 – Lack of resources telling you “How To Have a Great Time”. Pick-up any bridal magazine, any one of hundreds of wedding web sites, ask people you know, and you can get expert information on dresses, food, flowers, decorations, and so on. You will rehearse your ceremony with professionals so it will be perfect. But no one can tell you how to have a “great time”, or how to personalize a reception throughout the entire evening. If you don’t have a professional in this area, you are on your own, and there are no do-overs. So ask your prospective DJ, “We and our guests want to have fun and a great time…How will you make this happen?” Listen to the answer, you will know very fast what you are dealing with, and if it meets your expectation.

Reality #2 – Wedding receptions will be exactly what you plan them to be. Personalized, original, memorable, incredible, amazing, and fun won’t happen by accident nor do they just magically fall from the sky. On the other hand, ordinary, average, and boring will happen by itself if you don’t plan otherwise.

Reality #3 – Make sure your DJ’s talent level, professionalism, appearance and planning assistance can fulfill your wants and needs. Could you expect something that is cheap or average to create something truly remarkable? Ask your prospective DJ, “How is your service and performance different & better…what sets you apart from the others?”

Reality #4 – Bigger is not always better. With the large multi-system DJ company their time, resources, attention, and importance of your event is divided between all the events they perform that night. Your planning could be as little as a 15 minute phone call a few days before your wedding, and a different person you don’t even know showing up the night of the reception. What would make your reception stand out? Perhaps the best choice is a single-system DJ where 100% of their focus is on your event. In-person planning sessions with the actual DJ that will be performing at your reception, getting to know you, helping you plan & organize the entire event with the intent to personalize, individualize, involve your guests, and to make your reception incredible and memorable and to be “The Perfect Host!”. Just ask you prospective DJ “How much time do you spend planning with us? How will you personalize our reception throughout the night? How will you involve our guests, and how will you make us the Stars-of-the Night?”

Reality #5 – The best wedding DJ talent is in high demand. It gets booked first and early, because there is a difference. It’s true for DJ entertainment as well as wedding sites, reception venues, photographers, and many other vendors. For any given date, there are many more couples in need of top DJ entertainment than there is top DJ entertainment available. So, many couples will end up settling for an average or below average DJ. If having a fun, original, memorable, stress-free reception involving your guests is important to you, put a top priority on booking your entertainment early. Ask your prospective DJ, “When can we get together in person to get to know each other a little better, and find out if you are the right DJ entertainment for my wedding?”

Reality #6
- There are only few times in our lives that provide the opportunity to be surrounded by those who mean the most to us…friends, family and loved ones. Your wedding is one of them. Choose an entertainer that recognizes this special day for what it is – a celebration of life! I believe… that your wedding day will be one of the most cherished days you will ever share with those who are most important to you. I also believe… that your DJ has an enormous responsibility not only to you but your family, friends and guests. This responsibility is to ensure your every wish and desire is not only met, but exceeded. As you plan your special day, remember that the entertainment is the most important element to a successful reception. No other single element will effect more how you and your guests remember your wedding day, than a fun and magical reception.

Reality #7 – The lowest price is NOT the best deal. The top DJ entertainers/hosts will cost more than the other companies in the region (sometimes 3 to 5 times more), but they are the most busy and in high demand. The average cost of a cheese and vegetable buffet is about per person and if you have just 150 guests, you could be spending over 00 just for finger food for your guests. Is the entertainment at your reception worth more to you than broccoli?

Reality #8 – Is your prospective DJ Entertainment company a professional? How can you define professional? Is it a “real company” with a business license, liability insurance, toll free phone number and a LEGAL music library with professional audio equipment (with a 100% complete backup system)? Is this business their full time job or do they have a “real job” and only DJ to make extra spending money? Do they belong to a National Association with a code of ethics and standards of performance?

Reality #9 – One Wedding, One Chance To Do It Right! Talk to recent clients of the entertainer you are considering! They should be thrilled to provide the last 3 or 4 events that they have done! Any performer is only as good as their last performance!

Reality #10 – You will likely get what you pay for!  Most truly professional Mobile DJ’s will charge from 00 to 00 for their services depending on your specific needs and the services provided.  If the DJ you are considering is not in this price range, it is likely that they are unqualified, unlicensed, or otherwise unfit to perform for you and your guests on the most important, and most expensive day of your life!

Best of luck with planning your perfect wedding, and may you have a long, happy, and prosperous life together. If you have already chosen your entertainment for your reception, please pass this on to a friend.

Understanding The Importance Of Musical Entertainment At a Wedding Reception

Is that really true? In my opinion it’s the single most important thing. Yet it surprises me how often couples ignore this while paying attention to the venue, the food and the decoration. I think bad food, a shared wedding venue or even a dull and dry audience can be ignored or forgotten if you have music to enliven the mood. A nice drink with some decent dance is all it takes to get wedding guests over bad food or a bad venue. If your entertainment isn’t good, everyone will notice immediately and then even good food and venue won’t help much.

So how do we find out about the DJ?

The best bet is a video capturing any previous live performance. Sites like YouTube and Metacafe will easily show you such uploaded videos. I am not in favor of a demo CD as with modern softwares anyone can make a decent demo CD. Also, video gives you a chance to see the mood of the audience also which in my opinion is the single most important thing to look for while selecting your wedding DJ.

How do I know kind of band and how many musicians to look for?

A rule of the thumb is the size of your gathering. As the size increases so does the number of musicians required. Its simple physics because as the size of gathering increases, so will the size of the venue and hence you need more to catch the attention of your guests. For a small gathering of around 50 guests, 2 musicians would be enough. A trio with decent amplification will be OK for about 100 guests. But for anything over 100 it’s best to go for a band of around 4 musicians with a good quality PA system. Lighting for the stage and the dance floor must be equally matched.

How should the performance be organized?

The current trend is 3 sets of 45 minutes of live music each for a four hour period. Some couples prefer 2 sets of 1 hour each depending upon their food and other events. Most musicians will have their CD player hooked up to the venues PA system during the gaps and for sometime before the start of the live performance.

How much would I need to spend?

In today’s tough economic conditions, value for money is the mantra for most musicians. However, you shouldn’t crimp much because that will compromise reliability and quality of performance both.

3 Wedding Music Must-Not’s

Wedding music plays a vital role in your wedding’s success. It can help set the perfect mood and atmosphere during the ceremony and the reception. The selection of the ideal music is critical and must, therefore, be taken into consideration by both the bride and the groom. Achieve wedding music perfection by stirring away from these wedding music blunders.

Letting CDs and DVDs do the work. We all love listening to great music in CDs and DVDs. We even collect them! But, entertaining your guests with just these recorded versions is a great NO-NO. You don’t get married every weekend or every day. Treat your wedding with extra special attention and indulge yourself and your guests with great music by a live wedding band!

Leaving the live band to choose the music. Well, professional live wedding bands indeed know the A-Z of great wedding entertainment. But this does not mean that you are going to leave the music selection entirely in their hands, no matter how capable they are. You don’t want them singing the same songs they sang during last weekend’s wedding, do you? Involve yourself from choosing the first to the last song. Organize your own wedding music repertoire and perfect the kind of wedding feel you want to achieve.

Cheese overload! Don’t turn your dream wedding into a monster cheese-fest. You can play a few sentimental and mushy songs during the ceremony and the reception. But, going sappy and cheesy all the way is a major catastrophe. Choose songs you and your guests will surely enjoy. Pop in more danceable tunes and watch your wedding turn into a major memorable party!

Wedding Reception Music: What, Where and When

Part 2 – Reception

Now for the fun part. At your reception, you can relax, kick up your heels, and simply focus on enjoying yourself. And what better way to create a fantastic atmosphere that having music to enhance the entire experience? With a glass of bubbly in hand, mingle with family and friends, dine on some fabulous food, and finish up by dancing the night away.

Pre-dinner – This is a similar mood to that of pre-ceremony. Music that is easy to listen to should be playing in the background, stimulating conversation and creating an atmosphere of sophistication and elegance. Live acts serve as entertainment for guests as they await the arrival of the bridal party, and for the evening’s formalities to commence. Popular choices include an instrumental jazz trio, a string quartet, or a solo musician, such as a guitarist or pianist.

Dinner – It’s a great idea to have background music playing over dinner, to maintain the celebratory atmosphere.  We affectionately term the music played here as ‘Wallpaper music’; it won’t demand guest attention and interrupt conversation, but will provide a subtle musical backdrop and prevent any awkward silences at tables! You can have the ‘pre-dinner’ music continue over dinner, or a small to medium sized covers band perform lounge favourites such as Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, and Stevie Wonder.

Dancing – This is when music really becomes the focus. Many couples opt for their reception to climax with dancing later in the night, full of popular and catchy songs that everyone can enjoy. A covers band is a great option here, as they ensure a fantastic party atmosphere, great crowd involvement and will get guests of all ages on the dance floor. Other popular choices also include latin or funk bands, or a DJ.

Song Requests

Requesting songs for your reception is a hugely important part of the event. Songs serve as a reflection of you and your partner, can be used as a means of expression, and are very effective in highlighting key moments of the night.

Bridal Entry – The song you choose to signify your entry into your reception sets the tone for the entire evening. Do you want a party theme, or something more sentimental and expressive? It’s completely up to you! Regardless, the song you choose should be a reflection of your relationship, and the way you want your friends to remember your wedding. Popular choices include ‘Crazy in Love’ by Beyonce, ‘Let’s Stay Together’ by Al Green and ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by The Black Eyed Peas.

Insider Tip: Try and have a different song for every couple in your bridal party – it will not only make them feel special, but is an opportunity for you to poke light-hearted fun at them! Examples include ‘Is She Really Going Out With Him’ if you have a couple in the party or ‘Its Raining Men’ if you end up with one too many boys! Your guests will enjoy the laugh, and it sets a great mood for the rest of the night.

Cake Cutting – Music can be very effective in highlighting this moment between you and partner. Many couples opt for something romantic, with popular choices including ‘Everything’ Michael Buble, ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’ Stevie Wonder, and ‘Have I Told You Lately’ Van Morrison.

Insider Tip: Give the band plenty of notice if you want them to play your bridal waltz live. It will allow the singer to memorise the words, and the band to rehearse the song. No charts on the night – this goes for everybody!

Bridal Waltz – An expression of how you and your partner feel about one another, this is one of the most important moments of the day. Choose a song that you love and that means something to both of you. Remember, all eyes will be on the pair of you, so make sure you practice dancing to it before the day! Examples include ‘At Last’ Etta James,  and‘If I Ain’t Got You’ Alicia Keys.

Insider Tip: Listen to the words! You don’t want to reach the 2nd verse of ‘I Will Always Love You’ only to realize it is about a break-up…

Bouquet/Garter Toss – A fun part of the evening, and a chance for your friends to let fate decide who ties the knot next! Popular choices for Bouquet Toss are ‘Single Ladies’ by Beyonce or ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ by Cyndi Lauper, and you can’t go past ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ for the Garter Toss.

Insider Tip: The garter toss is becoming less and less popular due to the slight ‘tacky’ element of the groom disappearing under the bride’s dress to remove clothing with his teeth. It’s still very possible to do it with class (we’ve seen it done!), just be sure to keep in mind that Grandparent’s have surprisingly good memories.

Last Song of the Night – As the night draws to an end, you really want to make sure that you finish on a high. Choosing a fantastic song to close your wedding celebrations with will ensure that you leave your guests with an incredible last impression, not to mention wonderful lasting memories for you and your partner. When choosing your final song for the night, try and find something that is not only a great piece of music, but also means something to you and your guests. A party song that stimulates fond memories of when you and your new spouse first started dating is a great idea, and is guaranteed to get your friends rushing to the dancefloor.

Insider Tip: Always try and think of a high-energy track to finish on, especially if you have a band! You want your guests to be screaming for ‘one more’ as the lights are turned on…
