Attention Music Lovers: Discover A Little Known Business You Can Start In The Music Industry That Will Put Hundreds Of Dollars In Your Pocket Weekly

Let’s face it. The music industry has been deteriorating lately. With pirated songs online, and the economy in ruins, people just aren’t forking over their money to buy CD’s. But there is one section of the music industry that has been silently humming along, despite the economy (and their CD sales are still going strong). That section is the local music industry.

Local bands are still enjoying a steady stream of new work and many sell their own CD’s at the clubs they play around town. Not surprisingly, in order to get gigs and to increase their revenue, these bands need to make demo tapes and CD’s for their fans. To do this, they need a recording studio.

Now, most people don’t have a recording studio in their home. And that’s where you come in. If you have a spare section of your garage, or perhaps a spare bedroom, you can literally create a home studio of your own, one that could be generating cash for you in as little as 30 days.

With the many bands and aspiring musicians in every local town in the country, it makes sense that this would be an area that is thriving – and it is. Smart entrepreneurs have tapped into this lucrative market and are quietly raking in the dough every week.

There are lots of benefits to this type of business. The first is that you are targeting a hungry crowd. It’s similar to when the gold rush happened in California. The miners looking for the gold weren’t the ones who got rich. It was the business owners who supplied them with the tools they needed to mine that became extremely wealthy.

The music industry is its own pot of gold. There are always new bands forming and aspiring musicians are everywhere. Also, a majority of the bands will split up and then form another band with new members. It’s literally a revolving door of potential customers, no matter how small your town.

Another benefit to this type of business is that it can be started on a shoestring and up and running very quickly. If you started from scratch with no previous equipment, you could have everything you need for under 0. With just this basic equipment, you could have your first client within 3 days.

You can also do it on a part time basis while still holding down a regular job. As your income grows, you can decide when you want to ditch your job and go full time. You can easily make between 0-0/day, so it probably won’t take long before you decide to say goodbye to your boss. The typical recording studio can easily pull in 0,000/year.

Contrary to popular belief, the technical requirements for owning a studio are very simple. You can learn everything you need to know in under 3 hours and even novices can command high prices for their studio. Then of course there are the bonuses. You get to hang out with bands all day and become a ‘rock star’ in your own right. It’s a pretty cool way to make a living, isn’t it?

Home recording studio owners have been quietly raking in the cash for years. It’s one of the most stable, and lucrative businesses in the music industry, not to mention one of the most enjoyable.

Provided you get a little guidance on the set up, your home recording studio business should be up and running – and thriving – in no time.

Preparing For Jobs In The Music Industry

music jobs, music jobs uk, music industry jobs, classical music jobs, church music jobs

The music industry is undoubtedly one of the ‘sexiest’ fields in which to work, according to a recent survey by the editors of Time magazine. There are music industry jobs that require nearly any skill set that you can bring to the job, and the training required varies with each of the music industry jobs that may interest you. Here are some general guidelines for finding work in music industry jobs.

Love Music.

It’s not a prerequisite for music industry jobs, but loving music of any kind is a definite step in the right direction. While loving music may not be important in a record company accountant’s position, it’s practically required for anyone who works with artists or in promotion.

Check the qualifications for the job.

In general, most jobs in the music industry require at least a two year college degree – with the exception of performers who can get by without a degree if they have talent. Expect that the more involved the job, the higher your level of education and/or experience will need to be. A record promoter may need to demonstrate networking skills or developed contacts in the local music scene, for instance, and a contracts lawyer will obviously require a law degree. Music teachers working for the schools will need to have a teaching license as well as the demonstrated ability to play an instrument.

The best training is on the job training.

For positions like band manager, road work, publicists and promoters, the best training is through an internship or through your own work promoting and/or managing a band on your own. Some publicists and promoters come to the job from their own fanzines, or have developed a network of contacts in radio and advertising through their college or teen year extracurricular activities.

A degree in music is respected in many music industry jobs.

Colleges that specialize in music education like the Berklee School for the Performing Arts offer training in many different aspects of the music industry. You can study music and performance law, accounting for the music industry, and business management for music companies as well as composition, performance and other music-specific jobs.

Join the band.

One of the best training grounds for a career in orchestral music is your school or college band. If you’re already beyond the school years, take advantage of county and city music societies to both train your ear and keep in the practice of playing with others.

Music ministry jobs often require special certifications.

If you have a calling to a job in music ministry, you’ll find that many churches and synagogues require that their full time music minister have pastoral training as well as musical training. The American Guild of Organists and the National Council of Pastoral Musicians offer professional certifications at a number of levels.

Music therapists require a bachelor’s degree in music therapy from one of the approved universities that teach music therapy.

In addition to regular studies, the bachelors in music therapy requires 1200 hours of clinical practice.

The requirements for training for music industry jobs are varied, but this is a brief overview of the training required for some of the major careers in the music industry.

Music Industry – Market Review

Music Industry – Market Review

Music is described as a `main hobby’ (either playing, watching live or building a collection) by almost one in five UK adults, according to a November 2009 NEMS Market Research survey commissioned by Key Note. However, a much higher proportions of the population say that they listen to music every day, listen to it on the radio regularly or enjoy browsing in music shops, and 45.6% of homes contain a musical instrument (with just over a quarter of adults able to play one).

The importance of music in consumer lifestyles is also further emphasised by the results which showed broadening access to music, driven by new technology or other trends:

* slightly more than half of adults like watching `pop star’ competitions on the television, such as The X Factor
* 44.8% listen to music on their computers
* 16.9% go to hear live music in concert, pubs or clubs at least once a month.

Amateur involvement with music is strengthening thanks to the `karaoke’ or `have a go’ culture engendered in pubs and clubs, by the peak-time talent shows and, most recently, by a tranche of video games such as Guitar Hero, which offer the chance to play along with `real bands’. At the professional level, live music is also doing well owing to improved venues, more efficient ticketing (online) and the fact that artists are keen to tour (and bands are keen to reunite) to make up for lost income on recordings.

In contrast to the healthy amateur and live sectors, the recording industry — still the largest part of the music industry — has been in the doldrums because of the transition from easily regulated sales on CDs through record shops to the downloading of music to home computers and mobile phones, much of which is illegal. However, legal downloading is increasing and Key Note forecasts that the recorded market will at least stabilise in value over the next 5 years (at around £1.15bn), although not regaining its previous heights.

Although music retailers such as Woolworths and Zavvi have fallen by the wayside, the leading retailer, HMV, remains strong and the recording industry is backed by four giants, which have been in place for more than a decade. One of these `majors’ is the UK-based EMI Group, a major force for many decades and still reaping the benefits of having The Beatles in its back catalogue, while the label’s Coldplay had the best-selling album in the US and the UK in 2009. The other majors, all of which are larger than EMI, are Universal, Warner and Sony.

For these majors, a complex pattern of music production and distribution is developing in which a piece of recorded music (or a published song), as an intellectual property (IP), is economically justified through a range of income sources: sales to consumers (CDs or download), live performance and royalties for use in compilations, in the media (old and new), as ringtones, in video games and movies or even in public houses (pubs) and shops.

Music Industry and Free Downloads

Something is broken when Sony and Universal are suing children. Actually, at least two things are broken: the software that file sharers use, and the record labels’ business model. The current situation can’t be the final answer. And what happened with music is now happening with movies. When the dust settles in 20 years, what will this world look like? What components of it could we start building now?

The answer may be far afield. The answer for the music industry, for example, is probably to give up insisting on payment for recorded music and focus on licensing and live shows.

Whatever the answer be, we are continuing to see a bunch of startups stepping forward to find a solution to this problem. Most of them eventually fail, mostly due to the resistance from the label companies to change their business models. Well, why would they do that? Music is a multi-billion dollar industry and label companies don’t want to give up their share of the pie.

Several years ago, the sheer quantity of open challenges to American copyright law created a popular perception that music – old and new alike – was supposed to be free, and “shared” between friends and strangers alike. Upon release of just about any new album (and sometimes even before), full MP3-format tracks appeared on music-sharing services such as Napster and Kazaa, spreading around the world without restriction. Many recording artists were angered by what they felt was mass theft of their music, while others either ignored or embraced the file-sharing.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) decided to fight the “music is free” movement, undertaking highly publicized lawsuits on behalf of artists it represented. Services such as Napster were sued for billions of dollars as facilitators of copyright infringement, and either driven out of business or forced into retreat. Subsequently, RIAA lawsuits against individuals shut down large resources of “shared” music, and warned others that swapping smaller quantities of copyrighted content could subject them to similar legal action.

But when it comes to free unlimited downloading of music and songs, mostly in MP3 format, it can be a reality very soon. There are quiet a few music related startups that let you stream unlimited music for monthly fee. But are there any that let you download unlimited songs for a monthly fee? Well, as of now none. But there are quiet few startups that are trying to build a business model that can be profitable for both themselves and the music label companies.

Hopefully, free and unlimited music download will a be reality sometime soon.

Music Industry Jobs? Here Is The Ugly Truth!

If you are trying to find music industry jobs you will probably already realise that there has been an immense shift in the industry. A music industry career in the traditional sense is not an option for many people as the music industry continues to change and evolve away from the record company model toward a digital future.

I have had years of experience in the industry and have covered the full range of experiences from musician to livesound and stage lighting, from niche retail business ownership to retail chain marketing and purchasing, from management to DJ! I am passionate about music, I am always excited by the creativity in this arena and so I looked at returning to the industry a couple of years ago.

This is what I found! The record companies had either merged or moved their offices offshore and closed their doors. The highly qualified people who found themselves out of work were queueing up for anything remotely connected with music. Music retail sales had been slashed by the shift to digital, as well as being hit by the recession and fierce competition from other entertainment media. So the chain stores were disappearing and the smaller specialist stores were struggling with a declining market.

There were definitely no doors open here.

Let’s look at what has happened in the last couple of years.

Sales have continued to drop and show no sign of any reversal of the trend.

CD burning is commonplace and no amount of threatened action has made any impact on this practice.

Most of the younger part of the population are Ipod or other MP3 player owners and will only download, legally or otherwise.

Subscription services are a big growth area allowing unlimited access to huge libraries for a set monthly fee.

Also it is a sad indictment on the state of the industry that the only serious sales being generated come from reality TV, TV talent quests or rehashed greatest hits sets.

So the reality is that the internet in conjunction with the recession have really killed off most chances of a music industry career. The new digital industry requires relatively few people to run it. The democracy of numbers on the internet means it is the consumer who affects what is currently hot and not a team of sales, marketing and promotions people.

Interestingly, I found the answer to the lack of music industry jobs in the most unlikely place.

The internet is the major growth area in global business. There are a billion and a half users and this number is growing at a phenomenal rate every day. Internet marketing has been recognised by some of the most successful business people and entrepreneurs in the world as where the big opportunities will lie in creating wealth in the next five years. The technology advances, including high speed internet, that have taken place in the last five years and the growth of social media, Google, and internet marketing education have changed the online business landscape. Some of the most creative people in the world are drawn to this business and it is not surprising the number of musicians involved.

You can now really make money from online business and the advantages of working from your own home office are immeasurable. The time freedom attained allows you to have more time with your family, more time to pursue your interests or passions and the fear and insecurity of being in a rapidly diminishing industry fade away. And the potential earnings from internet sales are astonishing!

Fortunately most people who are involved in the music industry are creative in their thinking and the shift to internet marketing is relatively easy for those from a sales and marketing focused background. So don’t see the internet as the enemy which is destroying your industry. See it as an opportunity not to be overlooked!

The Underdog Vs The Music Industry: Is My Living In Vain?

In my war with the music industry, I have decided to release “Is My Living In Vain” from my second album entitled “The Underdog” in stores June 26. The song speaks about the problems and drama I face in the music industry.

The music industry will only show the positive side of music. “Is My Living In Vain” shows the real side of making and promoting an album as a independent artist. Many independent artists give up on music too soon, because of the dirty politics they face in the music industry.

“Is My Living In Vain” is my war cry against the music industry to expose the corruption with record labels, radio stations, concert promoters, and etc.

“Is My Living In Vain”

Chorus:
Is it worth it, I make music, I’m still lonely
I market, I promote, I never see money.
Is it worth it, Can you hear me, can you feel my pain
What I really want to know, is my living in vain?

Is it worth it, I make music, I’m still lonely
I market, I promote, I never see money.
Is it worth it, Can you hear me, can you feel my pain
What I really want to know, is my living in vain?

Verse 1
To put an album out, I need a million dollars
I’m as quiet as they come, I really want to holla.
I’m stress out, I’m underground, I’m Independent
This whole music industry, it got me twisted.
people getting signed when I can’t get a deal
on radio and tv, I’m down on my knees.
In magazines they shine, while I wait for my spot
Radio won’t play me, even through my music’s hot.
Labels won’t sign me, they spit on my flow
They say I’m not commercial, I’ll never go gold.
that’s a half million records, they say i’ll never sell it
can you feel my pain, Is my living in vain.

Verse Two:
My flow is hottest, when I’m on the microphone
The beats are fire, but I’m still unknown.
Right now, I’m thinking did i make a mistake
cause I can’t get my hottest song on a mixtape.
all this drama, it got me depressed.
Sometimes I feel cursed and not blessed.
I cry in private so people can’t see it
If my pain was a book, nobody wanna read it.
In public I smile, I really had enough
At the end of my rope, I want to give up
My life, I sacrificed for a mic and a track
I love this music, but it don’t love me back.

Verse Three:
I don’t eat or sleep right when I’m on the road
I’m know all around, on tour, i’m doing shows.
I tear it down, everytime I hit the stage
Promoters acting funny, they don’t want to pay.
Music don’t pay, I had to get a job
My music is supported by my bank debit card
I’m in the booth every time I get a check
Sometimes I don’t eat, there’s no money left.
It takes money to get them hot beats
My friend James E gotta pay for me to eat.
Is it my time, my dream, did I lose it
Is my living in vain, should I stop doing music

THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED IN THE NIGERIAN ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

Late Ray Charles had lost his sight at the age of seven and his younger brother, two years earlier. The world he was once saw and basked in its beauty and serenity had become dark and misty. In the face of hardship and seemingly insurmountable mountains as he travelled wearily on life’s path, he found solace in music which turned out to be an escape route that late Ray Charles walked upon triumphantly into stardom. Such was the life of this great artiste (though blind), who played the piano with dexterity that “RAY” a biopic movie was released in 2004 starring Jamie Foxx and directed by Taylor Hackford. Our parents would certainly have a nostalgic feeling, reliving hit songs such as “I got a woman, Georgia, Hit the road Jack, amongst others and with a dozen Grammy awards and others coupled with ground breaking achievements recorded in his profile, Ray Charles who passed on to glory on June 10,2004 was truly a legend.

“This track is so delicious , I go by the way of Cobilicious” was the intro of the rap lyrics Cobhams Asuquo reeled out in Dekunle Fuji’s successful track “No Lele”, though many Nigerians were unaware of his ‘nil vision state’. His popularity soared amongst the populace when he performed the beautiful thought provoking chorus in the song “Lagi Mo” (The Roof Top Mcs) which saw the song hitting the number one spot on some Nigerian chart shows. He won the HIP Hop world Awards 2007 for the “producer of the year category”, increasing the number of statuettes he’d already received. He is presently one of the highly sought after producers in the music industry, making guest appearances on TV programmes and reality show (Project Fame West Africa, season 1) along with the solicitation for his services which extends to Corporate bodies, banks (Sky bank’s advert with the Akuna matata song)

The icy hands of death almost took away Yinka Ayefele in 1999 when he was involved in an auto crash. The crash affected his spinal chord and sentenced him to life on a wheel chair. Through the fiery trials and the stop of the pity partying, he was bold enough to put the ordeal behind him, and bursting forth like water from a rock to quench our thirst with refreshing exciting gospel flavour. Fame, fortune, local and international awards have willingly found their way into his life.

The Naija music terrain can boast of this duo who have succeeded on its stage, but can the same be said of the movie industry. We’ve seen physically challenged roles(visually impaired/ lame) being performed by able bodied thespians to the best of their abilities, but wouldn’t it be a surprise to millions of movie viewers for medically proven, physically challenged people to naturally perform such roles assigned to their able bodied counterparts. Who says there are no talented ones among them whose  acting skills can’t be brushed up, after all not every A-list thespian studied theatre arts or attended schools that specialized in harnessing such talents.

There are a lot of talented physically challenged people out there rotting away simply because no one has dared to give them a chance. After all the scripts can be converted into Braille letters for them to read, at least we know their sense of hearing is hyper functional than that of the sight seeing fellow. Quite a number of TV Reality shows have hit the screens these past couple of years(dominantly in the Entertainment sector) with new ones emerging by the day, such as Gulder Ultimate search, AMBO, Next movie star, The Intern, Maltina Family dance all, Star Quest, Football with Fash, The Twelve Ambassadors, Big Brother Nigeria, Apprentice Africa, Idols West Africa, Nokia First Chance, Project Fame West Africa.

No reality TV show has been made for the physically challenged probably borne out of fear of not securing sponsors (who are focused on making returns for their investments), or fear of outright rejection by the teeming viewers. Who says a reality show that the physically challenged can function in can’t be conceived and birthed, its all about ingenuity and who can tell whether such a reality show can end up being the best among the lot, nothing is impossible!

No one chooses to be born with a disability, a microscopic percentage makes a touch down on plant earth with disabilities, while a dominant proportion can be attributed to ‘the carelessness of man, accidents and in some cases ‘African remote controlled incidents. Stevie wonder and late Ray Charles were given opportunities to clinch the tickets to stardom, which they appreciatively did, simply because someone believed in them and created opportunities for them to show the world what they had . Let’s help the physically challenged live their dreams in Nigeria , for there is without an iota of doubt, ability in disability!.
